Wilson

Wilson Novitzki is a Brooklyn based musician from Memphis, Tennessee. Much of his photography is taken while touring the United States and Europe in the band of D.I.Y. legend R. Stevie Moore. He shoots with manual film cameras exclusively, and does not use any lighting equipment, filters, or editing software.

He has a particularly strong interest in low-light situations, and initially undertook photography solely with the intent of capturing the dramatic contrasts that can be found while walking in the city at night- devoid of any interest in the documentation of people, things or events. His original intent was to avoid taking pictures that had any real subject beyond light itself (happily, an abandoned endeavor). All of this is a direct result of being once completely overwhelmed by Rene Magritte’s painting The Empire of Light, which forever altered his perception of urban light. He has only recently begun to explore portraiture. "Reliability" was his first public exhibition.
